Born Nijmegen, 1936; doctorate 1972. Taught Western Palaeography and Codicology at Leiden University (first as assistant to Prof. G.I. Lieftinck, from 1972 as his successor); retired 2001.

Codicology (Western and comparative); Dutch manuscripts (penwork; Egmond); codicological and palaeographical terminology. – [Also: translations of Laozi.]
